“Iranian Government Sets Ambitious Target to Increase National Gas Production: Aiming for 400,000 Barrels per Day”

The Iranian government announced on May 25 their plan to increase the country’s national gas production by 400,000 barrels per day through the National Iranian Gas Company’s program. This would bring the daily production up to 4 million barrels, as reported by Tasnim news agency.

During a meeting of the parliamentary committee on energy issues, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani instructed the NIGC to raise gas production from 3.6 million barrels to 4 million barrels per day. The meeting was attended by notable figures such as Vice President Golam Hosein Esmaeili and Minister of Economy and Finance Abbas Ali-Abedin. According to Reuters sources, gas prices in Tehran have also been increased to $3.1 per liter.

According to the April report released by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Iran’s average daily gas production in the first three months of 2024 reached 3.174 million barrels. This is an increase of more than 20% from estimates for 2023, where the daily production was at 2.855 million barrels.
