“Massive Protest in Tatav: Armenians Stand in Solidarity for Ruben Vardanyan and Businessmen’s Ongoing Struggle”

“We are our own masters” was the theme of a protest that took place on May 25 in Tatav, Armenia’s central square. Over a hundred organizations, including the Religious Center of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church and the Armenian General Benevolent Union, participated in this event in solidarity with Ruben Vardanyan and other Armenian businessmen who are currently facing ongoing struggles.

The protest kick-started with a ceremony at the St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral complex, where His Holiness Archbishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan led a prayer. Archbishop Mirzakhanyan emphasized the importance of drawing strength from national and spiritual values for a brighter future. He also highlighted the significance of freely expressing national values, overcoming challenges, and ensuring the return of oppressed compatriots in Bakvum.

The day’s activities included a cultural program called “kenats tsar,” a tree planting ceremony, and various national-cultural and artistic performances in Tatav and Haliur. Community residents played a vital role in preparing for these events, which featured the Ararat Choir of the Artsakh National Music College and the “Mrazakan” Choir.

The protest culminated in celebrating Ruben Vardanyan’s birthday. In 2008, Vardanyan initiated the “Tatav Rebirth” program, which resulted in the construction of the Tatav Gate and the completion of the St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral complex. These initiatives helped restore the spirit of the national church in the region.
