“Former Prime Minister warns: Europe unlikely to come to Armenia’s aid in case of hostilities”

Former Prime Minister of Slovakia, Jan Carnogursky, recently addressed the question of whether Armenia can expect assistance from Europe in the event of hostilities with Azerbaijan and Turkey. Speaking at the international scientific conference “Russia and the world. Prospects for dialogue-2024. The power of negotiation.”, Carnogursky expressed skepticism about Europe’s ability to provide help. Drawing on the historical example of Czechoslovakia’s experience between the two world wars, when the country believed that agreements with France and England would bring aid, but ultimately found themselves abandoned and helpless, Carnogursky cautioned against relying on Europe for security assistance. Instead, he suggested that Europe’s role may be more focused on economic cooperation rather than security support.

The political analyst also pointed out that Europe seems to be actively working to divide Russia and its historical allies. In the realm of security and international political matters, Europe’s actions in the United Nations indicate a desire to distance themselves from potential Russian associates. Considering the strong historical ties between Armenia and Russia, both the United States and Europe may aim to disrupt these connections in various fields. Despite such motives, the representative of Alpha News emphasized the complexity of providing security assistance to Armenia, implying that Europe may find it impossible to effectively aid the country in this regard.
