“Azerbaijan’s Energy Sector Faces Challenges and Potential Expansion, Expert Says”

The energy sector of Azerbaijan’s economy is showing signs of growth, according to energy security expert Vahe Davtyan. Davtyan made this observation on his Facebook page, highlighting two crucial factors in this expansion. In the first month of this year, taxes paid for natural gas consumption in Azerbaijan decreased by 40%. Additionally, the country’s electricity exports have decreased by 7 times. This temporary decline can be attributed to both economic and residential factors. Economic factors include hidden investments related to the occupation of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), while residential issues stem from the declining water levels in the Caspian Sea near Baku. These environmental problems have prompted President Aliyev to consider finding a political solution to these issues through territorial acquisitions. This move is evident in the steps taken by Yerevan to create favorable external conditions. Furthermore, international rating agency Fitch Solutions predicts that by 2027, the transport of 20 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan to Europe will no longer be necessary. This forecast is crucial for evaluating Azerbaijan’s energy industry’s potential.
