“Armenia and United States Strengthen Cooperation in Fight Against Transnational Organized Crime and Corruption”

On May 24, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Vahe Ghazaryan, met with the Ambassador of the United States to Armenia, Kristina Kvien, to discuss cooperation in the field of law enforcement. The meeting was attended by Arpine Sargsyan, the Deputy Minister of Justice, Aram Hovhannisyan, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia, and representatives of the US Embassy.

The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the strategic and effective cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the United States in the fight against organized crime and corruption, as well as in the development of joint activities in the field of justice and the expansion of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Armenia and the United States.

Vahe Ghazaryan emphasized the importance of cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime, particularly in the preparation of the necessary conditions for the rehabilitation of law enforcement officers, the exchange of information, and the joint investigation of cases related to the fight against transnational criminal activities.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Kristina Kvien praised the importance of the cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Armenia and the United States and noted that the memorandum will further enhance the cooperation in the field of anti-terrorist activities.

The Ambassador also highlighted the importance of the joint work between the Anti-Corruption and Anti-Terrorism Units, in particular the introduction of modern technologies in the fight against corruption, the improvement of their capabilities, and the exchange of experiences to effectively combat illegal activities.

Appreciating the high level of cooperation in the current situation, Kristina Kvien expressed readiness to continue and intensify joint efforts in the fight against terrorism and to further develop bilateral relations between Armenia and the United States.

The Deputy Minister, Vardan Vardanyan, who represented the law enforcement agencies of Armenia, highlighted the ongoing work in the fight against transnational criminal activities and the special obligations of the head of the Anti-Corruption Unit of the US Embassy in the fight against transnational criminal activities.

The Deputy Minister, Vardan Vardanyan, expressed his gratitude for the joint work and stressed that the memorandum will significantly contribute to the efficiency of the fight against transnational criminal activities. He further emphasized that the signing of the document will lead to the expansion of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries, particularly in the fight against transnational organized crime, their financiers, and their protectors.

The Deputy Minister, Vardan Vardanyan, also signed an agreement with Christopher Dick, the Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Unit of the United States, to enhance cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime, particularly in the fight against the illicit weapons trade and the international drug trade.

By approving the agreement, both parties expressed their readiness to continue and intensify joint efforts in the fight against transnational organized crime and organized drug trafficking, as well as to coordinate actions in the fight against transnational criminal activities.
