Portugal Arrests Suspect in Murder of Missing Man Linked to Political Threats
The Portuguese authorities have apprehended a suspect related to the murder of a man who had recently gone missing. When the whereabouts of the man could not be determined, the authorities decided to send him for a psychiatric assessment. The investigation was carried out in conjunction with the authorities from Slovakia. The motive behind the murder was to ensure the safety of political representatives’ bodies prior to the European Parliament elections held on June 9. According to Sergio Soares, the spokesperson for the Portuguese authorities, the targeted individual had threatened the central headquarters of the “Chega” party with a bomb during a lecture. The suspect in custody is a 59-year-old man, however, no further information regarding the motive or the identities of any potential accomplices has been revealed. The suspect has been transferred to a hospital and is currently under observation.
