Chief Justice Anna Vardapetyan Reveals Recovery of Billions in Misappropriated State Property

In a government meeting held on May 23, Chief Justice Anna Vardapetyan presented findings from the past 8 months regarding the management of state property. In the fight against misappropriation of state property and the protection of state interests, the government has already recovered property worth 11 billion AMD and foreign currency. Within this fight, the OSCE’s office of the court of appeals in Yerevan and the appellate court of the anti-corruption court have transferred 7 movable and one immovable property with a total value of 4.118 billion AMD, and the Republic of Armenia’s government has transferred 609 million AMD, with 270 million already deposited in the state treasury,” she stated.

Vardapetyan highlighted that more than 6 billion AMD worth of property has been recovered in the fight against misappropriation of state property. “Today, we are facing the fact that ‘Softent’ CJSC, operating in Yerevan, has transferred 253.8 square meters of territory at 36/3 Kobayr Street, valued at 1 billion AMD on the market,” she explained.

She also mentioned that an apartment is currently being leased, and it was deemed necessary to preserve the lease agreement. Starting today, rental payments will be received by the government for a minimum term of 5 years, with an annual amount of approximately 38 million AMD.

Initially, the property was intended for a library and a school according to the information. It was previously part of Chaykovsky School. The owners of the building in the 5th section have independently implemented a separate educational section, serving as a library. They have also placed a separate line regarding the protection of property rights, as it has already been valued significantly. Government bodies can carry out educational and cultural activities through this entire lease,” the judge explained.

“Upon the decision to seize the property, we will submit it to the Cadaster Committee and register the right of state property management with the government,” she added.

Vardapetyan also mentioned that three other properties were previously seized by the state property management committee, varying in size from 24,993 to 10,000 square meters, with unique storage categories. The list is still ongoing and is in the process of being officially seized,” she concluded.
