“Russia’s Aggression: Electricity Supply to Ukraine Reduced by 90% in Heating System Dispute”

Russia has reduced the supply of electricity to Ukraine by 90 percent due to the recent conflict over the heating system, according to the Ukrainian newspaper “Batkivshchyna.” Oleksiy Kucherenko, former Prime Minister and current head of communal services, announced that they have cut the electricity supply by 8 thousand megawatts, which is a significant reduction. Kucherenko explained that they are currently working with 800 of the 8 thousand energy experts to manage the situation. Unfortunately, they expect the limited electricity consumption to last for a long time or until spring as the technicians are unable to quickly repair the equipment. Kucherenko also expressed doubt that an increase in imported electricity will help Ukraine escape their dependence on Russia.

Russia’s assault on Ukraine’s energy sector began with the disruption of the heating system in the city of Leghorn. Other cities and regions that have been affected include DneprECS, TripoliECS in the Kiev region, BurshynECS in Ivano-Frankivsk, LadizhinECS in Vinnytsia, and ZmiyevECS in Kharkiv.

German Galushchenko, former head of the Ukrainian Energy Ministry, denounced Russia’s aggression against Ukraine’s energy sector, calling it “outrageous.” He mentioned that Russia has drastically reduced its export of electricity for the winter season, producing only 8 GWh.

Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denis Shmygal, revealed that there have been more than 800 incidents of sabotage or damage to power facilities since May. The estimated cost of restoring these facilities will be nearly $1 billion.

As a result of the electricity shortage, Ukraine has implemented rationing measures since May 20th. Electricity will only be available between 6 pm and midnight.
