“Julian Assange Wins Right to Appeal Extradition Request, Supporters Rally in London”

The London High Court has ruled that Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, has been granted the right to appeal his most recent extradition request to the United States, CNN reports. Supporters of WikiLeaks have gathered near the court building in London to show their support for Assange. During the hearing on May 20, Assange’s legal team argued against the acceptance of extradition requests from US prosecutors, citing violations of his rights and concerns about the fairness of the process.

The judge presiding over the case has permitted Assange’s lawyers to present a significant argument pertaining to freedom of speech and its potential impact on citizenship based on the charges against him. The next court session is yet to be scheduled.

The US authorities are seeking the extradition of 52-year-old Assange for his role in publishing thousands of classified documents between 2010 and 2011 through WikiLeaks. If convicted of misconduct, Assange could face a lengthy prison sentence.
