“Construction Dispute in Kirantsi: Residents Refuse to Leave Homes as Alternative Route is Built”

The road from Kirantsi to Ajarkut is currently being constructed to provide an alternative route, according to village resident Karen Ghazaryan. The construction site, located along the alternative route, has been excavated and three resident families had to be relocated. The residents have been offered compensation by the administration. However, the villagers are distressed and have expressed their concerns. They have installed pylons on their private properties and some are even considering not sending their children to school due to fears about the proximity of the school to the border. The villagers have been given a deadline of June 24th to leave their homes, but some are refusing. Tigran Khanum, one of the residents, is determined to stay and is even prepared for forceful eviction. Karen Ghazaryan also shared that during a recent meeting with the governor, Hayk Ghalumyan offered a larger sum of money as compensation, but Tigran Khanum did not accept the offer. As a result of these actions, the authorities have not only closed the entrance and exit of the village, but also the road itself. This has forced the residents of Kirantsi to walk approximately 6 kilometers on foot to see the Bagrat St. Sargatsan Church as they are not permitted to enter the village.
