“Controversial Seizure: Italy Claims Italian Door Design Endangers Passengers in Imported Fiat Vehicles”

The Italian customs administration seized over 130 Fiat vehicles imported from Mexico this week. They claimed that the doors of these vehicles could endanger passengers due to their Italian design with colored hinges. According to a representative from Stellantis Italia, the company behind Fiat, the 134 mini cars, known as Topolino, were temporarily seized in Livorno for technical checks in response to reports by local media. The purpose of the procedure, as stated by the representative, was to certify the conformity of the product. Stellantis believes it complied with regulations and resolved any issues regarding the colored hinges. Italy’s administration and Stellantis have been at odds for months over the company’s decision to produce its vehicles in Italy rather than relocating production elsewhere as requested by Rome.
