“Armenian Minister of Defense Discusses Security and Reforms with CSTO Secretary General”

On May 16, Armenian Minister of Defense, Ararat Mirzoyan, met with Secretary General of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization), Stanislav Zas, in Strasbourg. The Ministry of Defense of Armenia released this information.

The representatives discussed various issues related to security in the European region, as well as the ongoing military reforms happening in Armenia. They emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, protecting human rights, and abiding by international law.

Mirzoyan highlighted that the Armenian government prioritizes political reforms, judicial reforms, and the protection of human rights. They believe that these factors are crucial for sustainable development and maintaining peace.

The Armenian Minister of Defense and the CSTO Secretary General exchanged their views on regional matters. Mirzoyan provided an overview of Armenia’s efforts in ensuring peace in the South Caucasus and stressed the significance of acknowledging the right of self-determination for the population of Nagorno-Karabakh. This right was established by the declaration of independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in 1991. Mirzoyan expressed that Armenia is determined to peacefully resolve the conflict.

The meeting also addressed international humanitarian issues. They highlighted the importance of the approved formats by the CSTO and emphasized their purpose of improving lives.
