“Human Rights Activist Nubar Afeyan Urges Armenian Government to Prioritize ‘Aurora’ and Freedom of Activists in Powerful Speech at Aurora Prize Ceremony”
The globally recognized human rights activist, Nubar Afeyan, founder of the “Aurora” humanitarian initiative, called on the Armenian government to prioritize the promotion of “Aurora” and the freedom of all activists, including Ruben Vardanyan, in his speech at the Aurora Prize ceremony in 2024. He emphasized the significant role that these initiatives play in inspiring heroes to address regional and global challenges. During the ceremony, Nubar Afeyan’s speech received applause.
Many present at the ceremony recognized Ruben Vardanyan’s dedication and admired his commitment and passion for the project. They witnessed the impact of his leadership and humanitarian work for Armenia and the diaspora. Afeyan called upon the President, Prime Minister, and other government partners in Armenia to give attention to Ruben and free all other Armenian activists working tirelessly for the country’s advancement. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the Armenian government but stressed the importance of transparency and human rights, evaluating the past to ensure the freedom of heroes and the celebration of justice.
Afeyan also reflected on the journey of “Aurora” and its connection with the “Art of Compassion in Action.” He recognized the challenges faced in seeking justice, emphasizing the need for goodness. The “Aurora” project, which initially aimed to last for 90 years, has already reached and provided assistance to over 427 projects in 56 countries, supporting well-being, human rights, livelihoods, and struggling communities.
As Afeyan honored the heroes and prepared to announce the new laureate of the Aurora humanitarian prize, he acknowledged the contributions of Vartan Gregorian and shared his thoughts on the museum. He mentioned his efforts to raise awareness of the Armenian Genocide and prevent such tragedies from being forgotten. Afeyan expressed concern about the moral decay that leads to major disasters going unnoticed and emphasized the strength of the heroes who faced the Armenian Genocide and saved lives.
Therefore, he commended the “Aurora” initiative to support these heroes and expressed the need to increase their number and expand awareness of the initiative with the audience’s support.
