“Controversy Ignites as Youth Group Disrupts Churches in Yerevan: Mayor Urges Constitutional Approach”

I am frustrated by the fact that young people are connecting with former military forces and engaging in activities that disrupt churches. During the annual meeting of Yerevan’s mayor on May 14, the “City Youth Pact” group, led by Mayor Nuard Vardanyan, brought attention to this issue.

In his address, Mayor Vardanyan emphasized that the church is comprised of servants who represent the church and not the church itself or religion. He urged young people not to revolt against the government just because they do not agree with certain representatives. He also stressed that the church belongs to everyone, not just a select few.

Vardanyan then mentioned Bagrat Srapatsyan, the leader of the Tavush theme, and stated that he is a citizen of three cities: Canada, Armenia, and Armenia itself. He alluded to individuals questioning Srapatsyan’s immigrant status in Canada and expressed his disagreement with such discrimination. Vardanyan suggested that it would be more effective for individuals with similar concerns to exercise their constitutional rights, such as participating in elections.

The mayor concluded by reminding everyone that Armenia is one united, Christian, and non-sectarian state, emphasizing the importance of unity and inclusivity.
