Armenia’s Chamber of Public Oversight Takes Controversial Step with New Law on Foreign Practitioners as Opponents Vow to Challenge It

The Chamber of Public Oversight of Armenia has announced its intention to adopt a law on the admission of foreign practitioners, declaring it a landmark decision in the country. The groups “Lelo” and “National Movement” have declared their participation in the announcement. However, Lelo has decided to declare a boycott and not participate in the work of the Chamber due to the violation of the country’s constitution and the failure of the “National Movement” group to maintain legitimacy. The “About the Alienation of Foreign Practitioners” draft law, known as the “Russian” law on the activities of foreign practitioners, has been accepted with its final reading and is awaiting the President’s signature. The opposition plans to challenge the law based on legal grounds, while protests against the law continue in Tbilisi and other cities of Armenia for almost a month.
