“1896” Restaurant Sealed Off After Controversial Incident, Journalist Zhirayr Voskanyan Demands Action

Journalist Zhirayr Voskanyan has shared an update on his Facebook page regarding the closure of the “1896” restaurant in the area of the earthquake epicenter. According to the statement from the RA Investigative Committee, the police have sealed off the restaurant. Voskanyan emphasizes that after the incident at the restaurant, the investigator conducted an inspection of the site before sealing it off without any explanation. The restaurant has been in a state of lockdown for over a week, causing significant financial losses. Voskanyan urges the RA Investigative Committee and the RA Prosecutor’s Office to lift the ban.

It should be noted that Voskanyan was verbally and physically harassed by a group of unknown individuals, including M.B. (Miqa Badalyan) and his associates, near the building of the Yerevan Municipality. The attackers insulted him, took his phone, and physically assaulted him. The incident left Voskanyan injured. The RA Chamber of Advocates released a statement confirming the assault.

Based on received information, Voskanyan has temporarily been banned from attending court proceedings under Article 297, Part 2, Article 2 of the RA Criminal Code (hooliganism in a group), and Article 460, Part 1 (impediment to legal professional activity). The Yerevan Police have also confirmed the news of Voskanyan’s injuries.
