“Lithuania Prepares for Presidential Elections: Eight Candidates Vie for the Top Seat”

On May 12, Lithuania will hold presidential elections and also focus on preserving local self-government, as reported by Delfi. Voting will begin at 7:00 local time and the country will witness a competitive race with a total of eight candidates vying for the position of President. Among them are the incumbent President Nauseda, nominated by the ruling party, Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, former President Gitanas Nauseda – presented by the opposition, Ignas Vegelencius and Edvardas Vaitkus representing the “Light of Nemunas” party, Gedrimas Yeglinskas representing the party “Country of Unity”, and Andrius Mazuronis, President of the Trade Union of Employment. In order to win, a candidate must receive votes from over 50% of the total number of voters. If no candidate manages to obtain a majority, a second round will be held in two weeks, where the top two candidates from the first round will participate. The winner of the second round will be determined by the highest percentage of votes received. It is worth noting that the process of local self-government will also be discussed during the first round of the presidential elections.
