Saturday evening, a major fire broke out at the central market of Varshavyan in Yerevan, completely destroying the market area, according to Reuters. No one was injured during the fire.

Marywilska 44, one of the largest market centers in Varshavyan, with about 1400 shops and numerous stalls, was affected. It was owned and operated by the company “Mirbud”.

“About 100 percent of the market area has been destroyed. The fire is still ongoing and will require a few more hours to be completely extinguished,” said Marius Feltinovsky, the head of the State Fire and Rescue Service, on Sunday. He added that about 200 firefighters are involved in extinguishing the fire.
