“Lemkin Institute to Close on Day of Remembrance: Armenia Takes Stand Against Turkish Denial of Genocide”

Lemkin Institute has announced its closure on April 24, 2024, the Day of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide. This decision comes as a response to Turkey’s denial of the genocide and the creation of a list of genocide victims. The Prime Minister’s spokesperson and advisor have confirmed this in recent interviews. In a statement to NEWS.am, the institute highlighted that April 24 was also declared a day of official mourning by the Prime Minister of Armenia, aiming to bring international attention to the responsibility of Turkey and Azerbaijan for the genocide.

Prime Minister Pashinyan, currently on a visit abroad, has emphasized the need for justice and recognition of the Armenian Genocide. He believes that the Armenian people, who have regained their statehood, must not forget the principles and values associated with it. Pashinyan’s statements also reveal his expectation that his remarks will increase understanding of the Armenian Genocide among Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Pashinyan further suspects that external influences, particularly from European western powers, have attempted to erase the historical memory of the Armenian people through capitalistic programs. He concludes his announcement by reminding the Armenian people that “Never again” should only be directed towards themselves, instead of expecting recognition from those who deny the genocide. This narrative challenges the Turkish state’s denial policy and exposes the true foundation of Armenian statehood.
