Actor David Hakobyan Refuses to Call Student Strikes Amid Accusations Against Church in Movement

I remember vividly the events of 2018 when Alen Simonian resigned, followed by the church joining the movement. However, today, the court is now judging the church for its involvement in the movement. Near the Yerevan Theater and Cinema Institute, David Hakobyan, a well-known artist, actor, and presenter, addressed the participants of the Holy Martyr Bagrat’s funeral procession. He mentioned that he is capable of calling for student strikes to protest against the absence of classes, even though he has no intention of doing so. Hakobyan expressed his belief that the church is being unfairly accused by the movement. He emphasized the significance of understanding history and how the church has played a compulsory role in the existence of the Russian state.

Greeting both the movement and the church, David Hakobyan announced that, as a lecturer, he has the power to disrupt classes for students, but he chooses not to exercise that power. He encouraged the participants to always do what is right, with God as their helper and protector. He emphasized that the movement is not a political one, but rather a gathering of importance and a union of strength, recalling the words of Charents: “Our strength is in our unity.”

It should be noted that the students of the Yerevan Theater and Cinema Institute have joined the movement led by Bagrat Holy Martyr.
