“Human Rights Defenders Raise Concerns and Offer Support for Participants of ‘Defend Fatherland’ Movement”

Five human rights defenders, including Ruben Melikyan, have expressed their concerns regarding the protection of the rights of participants in the “Defend Fatherland” movement. Melikyan stated that the appeal has been supported by approximately 20 lawyers who are willing to defend the rights of the participants. In addition, a hotline, 095 08 87 87, has been launched and is operational 24/7. For participants in the movement, here are some brief instructions: 1) Only contact and interact with the organizers if you have permission from the authorities. 2) In cases of administrative detention, you can be held for up to 3 hours, while for investigative actions, the maximum detention period is 6 hours. Remember the exact time you are deprived of liberty. 3) If you haven’t made a prior phone call, request a call to your lawyer using the number 095 08 87 87 upon arrival at the department. 4) When calling the hotline, provide your name, surname, and the department of detention. 5) Refrain from signing anything without the presence of a lawyer. The signatories of the statement are Ruben Melikyan, Varazdat Harutyunyan, Arsen Babayan, Sergey Harutyunyan, and Vahan Hovhannisyan.
