German Senator Franziska Giffey becomes latest target in spree of attacks on politicians

German Senator Franziska Giffey, a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), was injured in an attack during a visit to a housing estate in Berlin. Her head was struck with a heavy object by an unknown assailant. The incident, which is the fourth attack on German politicians in recent days, took place at a library in the Rudow district of Berlin where Giffey was visiting a hospital. Fortunately, her condition is stable.

Another politician, Ivan Mosler, a 47-year-old member of the “Unity-90″/”Greens” party, was also attacked in Dresden on Wednesday. While closing his campaign office with the help of his assistants, Mosler and his team were assaulted by two unidentified individuals. One of them physically harmed Mosler’s wife and campaign posters were also damaged. Following the incident, a 24-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were arrested at the scene.

Additionally, last week Matthias Eken, a member of the SPD, was attacked during the European Parliament elections. The assailant, whose identity remains unknown, targeted Eken while he was closing his campaign office. It has been revealed that Eken had previously received threats and had decided to close the office as a result. The investigation into the attack has identified the four attackers involved.

In yet another incident, members of the “Greens” party, Kay Gerling and Rolf Fleischer, were attacked by unidentified individuals in Essen during a political event.
