“Earthquake aftermath: Villagers in Ohanavan plead for help as tons of debris haunt their lives”

Due to the earthquake, the village will have approximately 50-60 tons of debris. However, I am concerned that the workers will face difficulties in their recovery efforts due to the complete blockage of the road. Arshad Gasparyan, a resident of Ohanavan village in Aragatsotn province, spoke to NEWS.am on May 8th about the situation faced by affected residents on May 7th.

“We are living among these ruins. We took out a mortgage, built new houses, and bought medicine and supplies. Today, we are simply begging for help as the situation is terrible. The debris is about 20 cm deep,” he said.

Expressing hope that the administration will not let down the residents and will respond to their demands in some way, Arshad Gasparyan said, “If the government does not provide any assistance, what are we supposed to do? The villagers are constantly falling ill, feeling pain, and becoming more distressed. The end seems to be near.”

Similarly, Edgar Hayrapetyan, the head of Ohanavan community, also hopes that the administration will extend support to the villagers. However, he noted that there have been instances in the past where the residents complained about debris removal but did not receive any assistance.

“The debris has not been cleared yet, and in some areas, it constitutes up to 90 percent of the surroundings. The primary focus is on cleaning up the earthquake ruins,” explained Edgar Hayrapetyan. He further mentioned that the villagers are in a state of desperation and do not know what steps to take next.
