“Taiwan on High Alert: Armed Forces Intercept 10 Chinese Planes and 5 Ships in Unprecedented Show of Strength”

The Armed Forces of Taiwan intercepted 10 Chinese planes and five ships near the island in one day, according to the ROC Ministry of Defense’s website. The announcement highlighted that four planes crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, which acts as the recognized border for Taiwan’s jurisdiction, and reached the southwestern part of the East China Sea.

In response, Taiwan’s air force dispatched aircraft and deployed naval and air surveillance forces to monitor the movements of the Chinese military.

Following the Chinese civil war in 1949, Taiwan has been self-governing when remnants of the Kuomintang forces, led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975), sought refuge there after their defeat. However, Beijing regards Taiwan as one of its provinces.
