Armenian President Armen Sargsyan recently had a meeting with Sean Cairncross, the Chief Executive of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and Ivana Jankovic, the Resident Representative of the MCC’s European and Asia Countries Division in the Compact for Armenia. The meeting took place while the National Assembly was discussing the implementation of the second program of the Compact for Armenia.

During the meeting, Sargsyan expressed his appreciation for the ongoing cooperation between the Swedish Government’s Agency for International Development Cooperation (SIDA) and the International Development Office of the Government of the United Kingdom. He also applauded their support for the first program of the Compact.

Sargsyan highlighted the institutional reforms initiated to support political processes in Armenia and the positive impact of the “New Armenia: Time for Action” program of the Compact for Armenia. The National Assembly and the public have both seen the positive results of this program.

Ivana Jankovic also expressed her honor to be present, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the MCC in implementing institutional reforms. Jankovic specifically mentioned the resolution of issues faced by residents affected by the development of the Aragatsotn Highlands and the improvement of the regulatory framework for Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. She acknowledged and appreciated the support of Norway’s Government in this partnership.

Additionally, the meeting involved discussions on the security situation in the Karabakh region, the progress of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict resolution process, and measures to prevent the escalation of hostilities between the two countries.
