“FATF Experts Slam Turkey’s Financial Measures on Money Laundering: Country’s Removal from List at Stake”

The team of experts from the international Financial Action Task Force (FATF), who visited Turkey in 2021, have criticized the financial measures implemented to combat money laundering, according to a report by Reuters. This criticism follows a significant delay in Turkey’s response to the assessment report from the previous month’s visit, which raised concerns about Turkey’s implementation of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing measures. The team’s assessment report will serve as the basis for discussion during the FATF plenary meeting on June 28th, potentially leading to Turkey’s removal from the list of monitored countries. Back in February, Turkey had expressed its intention to accept certain recommendations outlined in its last statement regarding the visit.
