“Citizens and AntiFake Team Join Forces in Protest Outside US Embassy, Demanding Protection of Freedom of Speech and Journalists’ Rights”

The employees of the AntiFake editing team, along with a group of citizens, are organizing a protest today, May 7th, outside the US Embassy in Armenia. Their main demand is the protection of freedom of speech and the right to free expression. They want to take steps towards restoring these freedoms and ensuring the safety of journalists.

Narek Samsonyan, the head of the “Civic Knowledge” NGO and founder of the AntiFake.am website, along with Vazgen Saghatelyan, an independent journalist and editor, have been held in custody for 47 days. The reason for their arrest is for publishing an article titled “The ‘Peaceful Revolution’ and its Consequences,” which was based on leaked phone conversations involving Nikol Pashinyan.

International organizations and institutions that previously did not pay much attention to the human rights situation in Armenia, limitations on freedom of speech, political repression, and violations of political rights, have now shown interest in the ongoing law enforcement actions against these individuals. Their goal is to protect freedom of speech and ensure the rights of journalists.

The US Embassy in Armenia has also been observing the construction projects of these institutions. Although the embassy does not regularly publish statements regarding political developments in Armenia, they have not issued a statement regarding the arrested individuals in connection with political events. This information has been provided by the AntiFake editing team.
