“Bread and Salt: Public Movement Reaches Charentsavan, as Demands for Justice Grow Stronger”

The public movement has reached the town of Charentsavan in the Kotayk province. Upon entering the town, the participants were greeted with bread and salt, a gesture of hospitality brought by the displaced Artsakh Armenians currently residing in Charentsavan.

Catholicos Bagrat, in his welcome address to the residents, mentioned that Charentsavan was previously known as Lusavan, the City of Light, but was renamed in honor of the renowned Armenian poet Eghishe Charents.

“Charents is not only the author of ‘The Land of Nairi,’ but also ‘Soldiers Brought Up in Battle.’ We are on the right path,” Archbishop Bagrat stated.

It’s important to note that the movement originated in the village of Kirants in the Aragatsotn province on May 4th. As the movement progresses through cities and villages, bread and salt continue to be offered to the participants. Local residents join the movement, raising their voices against the injustices perpetrated by their municipal authorities.

The participants are demanding the unconditional release of the current format of border demarcation negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the cancellation of unilateral visits that compromise Armenia’s security, and the preservation of Armenia’s existence.

On April 19th, the residents of Kirants village staged a road closure, forcefully blocking vehicular movement and allowing only groups of three residents to pass through.

Consequently, the closure has affected the road connectivity between Armenia and Georgia, the only gas pipeline in Armenia, internet access, and the symbolic significance of the army.

The participants remain steadfast in their determination to reach Yerevan on May 9th, commemorating the victories of the Artsakh war in May and demanding accountability for the actions of the Armenian people.
