Government of Armenia Declares “Goy” Theater’s Independence: Talks Underway for Support and Connection

The Armenian Government recently made an announcement stating that the “Goy” theater will become an independent and operational institution. According to Serzh Arzumanyan, the head of the theater’s management, discussions are currently taking place regarding the government’s support for the theater and its connection to the government. Arzumanyan emphasized the importance of the theater continuing its work in its current location. Legal proceedings are also underway to establish the registration of the government-funded theater and no court decision has been made regarding the suspension of the government’s administrative actions. The integration of the “Goy” theater into the State Academic Theater has been met with opposition from its artistic and creative staff who strive to function as an independent theater. The theater’s doors were temporarily closed, preventing actors from conducting any experiments, leading to an indefinite sit-in that was later temporarily ended with the hope of fruitful discussions and negotiations.
