“EUMPC Explores Prospects for ‘Middle Corridor’ Project in Developing Eurasian Transport Connections”

The “Middle Corridor” project and its potential for development were discussed during a visit to the EUMPC by Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Vahe Davtyan. This project, which has already gained support from China, is expected to be implemented in 2022, with the involvement of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan as part of the “Trans-Caspian Railroad” initiative. The importance of opening a central Asian transport corridor to link the Eurasian Economic Union and Uzbekistan was emphasized in the declaration. The EUMPC sees the “Caspian Corridor” as an integral part of the transport and logistics infrastructure connecting Europe, the Caucasus, and Asia, and is now exploring opportunities for the “Middle Corridor” project.

The main goal of the project is to improve access to the Caspian Sea and Central Asia, with a focus on enhancing transport connections to European and Asian markets. The EU and China share common interests in this region, particularly in the context of energy infrastructure, such as the “Caspian Gas Pipeline,” which would extend the Trans-Pacific route and create a new energy hub. Therefore, the significance of the “Caspian Corridor” is increasing, and it is being integrated into major “Eastern-Western” projects. It is worth considering the possibility of unified implementation through a single document, rather than separate military forces.

In conclusion, the prospects for the “Middle Corridor” project within the “Caspian Corridor” are becoming more realistic and promising. This development is of great significance for the region and holds potential for expanding international transport links.
