“Protesters Demand Transparency: Civil Contract Party Establishes Working Group to Address Concerns”

Dear people, why are you protesting against the authorities? You say that after the revolution, there will be complete transparency. But why hasn’t there been any transparency since the revolution? You say that the authorities will be held accountable for 30 years of corruption. But is it clear whether this is true or not? Obviously, it’s not.

Today, on May 3, the spokesperson of the Civil Contract Party, Artur Hovhannisyan, announced the establishment of the “Citizenship Agreement” working group to address the concerns of the protesters.

“The demonstrators and their accompanying groups are carrying out orders for their leaders, to bring chaos to Yerevan and find a new place for their leaders to seek asylum. They are saying that they were born in Kedzale-Hajil and their fathers, friends, and supporters still live in Kedzale-Hajil. Let them go, let them speak. How much can people tolerate? It is impossible to deport people, like in Karabakh,” said Hovhannisyan.

He criticized the protesters for causing disruptions in the country and emphasized that the first step towards transparency is the implementation of public regulations, not personal demands.

“One person cannot deprive people of their right to live in safety, just as you did in Karabakh by resolving the Lachin issue. Baron Seyran Ohanyan and Artsvik Minasyan are plotting against me when they say that they resolved Lachin,” said the representative.

When tensions rose, Ardzvik Minasyan and Seyran Ohanyan interrupted, with Minasyan saying, “You are wrong. I won’t speak with you anymore.” Ohanyan added, “You are wrong, you shouldn’t have interrupted me. Respectfully, address us.”

Minasyan then tried to say something, but he was interrupted by Hovhannisyan, who said, “Have you heard what your representatives are saying? Have you heard yesterday’s address, Minister Minasyan, where you accused me of endorsing violence? I am telling you again, you are not addressing personal qualities, but rather the level of responsibility. Yes, you helped resolve the Lachin issue, you helped, supported, and resolved Lachin. However, now you are trying to provoke something here. I am saying this clearly.”

The situation became tense when Hovhannisyan recalled his previous statements about the protesters causing disruption in Lachin, which led President Hakob Arshakyan to intervene and call for calm.

Hovhannisyan continued, “Thank you for giving me advice not to lower myself to the level of the protesters, but rather to remain unbiased. Yes, I was unbiased, but I was describing the situation objectively. You successfully resolved the Lachin issue in Nagorno-Karabakh, and now you are trying to do something here. I am telling you again.”

The tensions in Dajla rose when Arshakyan announced during the meeting that Minasyan would be removed from the night’s session due to his disruptive behavior.

Arshakyan continued, “Dear colleagues, have you heard the explanations of your leaders? If we respond in the same way, it will not be good. Listen to your own explanations. If you don’t want to hear the same explanation at your address, return to your seats.”

Arshakyan then called for the continuation of the session without any further interruptions.
