Egypt’s Passport Administration Requests Temporary Fuel Relief Amidst Wartime Restrictions to Aid 10,000 Citizens

Egypt’s Passport Administration is requesting temporary relief from fuel restrictions during wartime, allowing 10,000 individuals to access fuel supplies until the conflict concludes, as stated by the administration. Diaa al-Luh, Egypt’s passport director, disclosed that over 100,000 passport holders in Egypt lack the necessary documents to enroll their children in school, expand their businesses, open bank accounts, obtain travel permits, or receive medical insurance. He also highlighted that some individuals have resorted to smuggling fuel. According to Reuters, al-Luh emphasized that fuel allowances would only be granted for personal and humanitarian reasons, and mentioned the absence of wartime residency recognition since October 7. “We are referring to a specific group of people in desperate situations. We are appealing to the government to provide them with temporary relief from fuel restrictions, potentially until the end of the conflict,” stated al-Luh.
