Armenia’s Freedom From Discrimination Violations Hit Over 50%, Human Rights Defender Warns

This year in the Republic of Armenia, more than 50% of violations have occurred towards freedom from discrimination. Arman Tatoyan, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, made this statement during a discussion on May 2 regarding the 2023 financial plan of the Human Rights Defender’s Office in the National Assembly. Tatoyan emphasized that there has been an 82% increase in violations compared to the previous year, with a total of 2802 recorded cases. He considers this alarming as it signifies that currently, Armenia is facing a significant challenge in terms of freedom from discrimination, according to international indicators.

In order to tackle this issue and achieve positive results, the United Nations highlights the need for the Armenian government to take transparent and substantial steps. It is important to recognize that every country has different timelines for restoring their activities and powers of authority in relation to their functions and responsibilities.

Overall, the current situation in Armenia regarding freedom from discrimination calls for urgent attention and action to address these violations and ensure the protection of human rights for all individuals in the country.
