“Protesters Express Anguish in Tsavush as Border Demarcation Sparks Outrage”

In Tsavush, a protest action took place on the Sptak-Tsavush road during the ongoing border demarcation process. Armenian Facebook user Armen Asatryan shared a video on social media, showing the dissatisfaction of the village residents with the authorities and the gathered protesters. They questioned the reasoning behind the protest, asking if their fellow citizens were aware of what was happening in Tsavush and if they understood the situation in the country.

Emotional outbursts were also observed during the protest action.

On April 19, negotiations began in Tsavush regarding the demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The specific sections of the border are being determined based on geodesic measurements conducted in the area, and the process is set to be completed by May 15, 2024.

The Armenian government has announced that, as a result of the demarcation, Armenia will gain the settlement of 2.5 villages, while the Republic of Azerbaijan will reduce its security risks. A segment of the road will be modified in a part of the village on Sunday, without causing any problems for Voskepar. Additionally, the forces in the four villages of Tsavush that have been displaced will be reinforced and relocated to defensive positions once the demarcation is finalized.

Since April 19, the residents of Tsavush villages have been carrying out protest actions on the Armenian-Georgian international road. They are protesting against the demarcation plan that has been approved by Yerevan and Baku.

Despite the ongoing protests, 35 border signs have already been installed on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
