Prime Minister Pashinyan Addresses Border Delimitation Issue: Symbols of Sovereignty in Territories Given to Azerbaijan

We will thoroughly investigate this issue and, according to the information, we discuss this question daily. On May 1st, during an interview with State Television, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that our villagers in the territories given to Azerbaijan have symbols of sovereignty.

“This is a fact and it is important that we talk about it, understand it ourselves, analyze it, and discuss this issue,” Pashinyan said. “In whatever context we talk, whether visually, on a map, on paper, we practically do not know where to be, where it will be used, where it will be applied,” he added.

The recent trial conducted in Voskepar, Berkbereh has shown us that our perception of distance between certain points and the actual measurement from a machine can differ significantly. We think that a certain point will be 50 meters away from us, but the machine shows it is within 100 meters. We think it will be located about 150 meters from us, but the machine shows it is within 30 meters. Therefore, it is necessary for us to buy time, understand the problems mentioned, and find solutions.

We see and know that the actual border passes through the edge of the village, which is no joke considering it is a residential area. Even a few tens of meters on this side can have serious implications.

Regarding the expected process in Karabakh in the coming days, Pashinyan stated, “During this process, I have met with at least 4 representatives from Karabakh. In the Karabakh section, we have 11 issues related to delimitation, which we have to address. There is one point in that section of the 11 points of delimitation that the Karabakh people do not accept. In the coming days, we will start the delimitation of the uncontested sections, while also seeking solutions for the other 3 or 4 points.”

Pashinyan further emphasized that he does not want to disclose much operational information, including the independence movement’s signatures and confidential security-related documents. However, he assured that they are being researched and studied to protect the citizens and implement their suggestions. Pashinyan reiterated that the attention is focused on delimiting Armenia’s border, not Kirants, which is just a village in the border area, and they must delimit it in such a way that it aligns with customs in other territories and the state border of Armenia is measured in kilometers, not meters.

Finally, Pashinyan reiterated that in the coming days, they will begin the delimitation of the uncontested sections in Kirants and continue working on the 3 or 4 points connected to specific issues until they find a resolution and can mark them with indicators that confirm the truth.
