Former Prime Minister of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, Rejects Cooperation with “Black and White” Political Forces, Citing Their Destructive Influence on Armenia

I do not belong to any political group, and I have not aligned myself with either the black or white forces. The political forces that have attempted to destroy Armenia cannot be considered their own. At a recent meeting of the “New Power” movement, former Prime Minister of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, addressed this issue. When asked why he has distanced himself from the “black and white” model, he replied, “Yes, indeed. There is a saying, ‘I gave birth to him, I will kill him too.’ This means that at this moment, we are offering all political forces the opportunity to unite. We cannot cooperate with those forces or individuals who have demonstrated that they do not prioritize Armenia’s well-being. If these people truly cared about the development of our country, they would have done everything in their power to ensure its prosperity.”

It is worth noting that after the “velvet revolution,” Hayk Marutyan was elected Mayor of Yerevan in December 2021 as part of the “Citizen’s Contract” party. He has taken steps to address the injustices caused by political persecution. When asked if he is not cooperating with the former authorities, he responded, “We have returned to our conscience.”

In other words, Marutyan stated that he will not cooperate or align himself with Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan, as they have been the architects of a system that has destroyed our country. They have held power for years and have shown no willingness to change.

Hayk Marutyan, after the “revolution of tenderness,” was elected Mayor of Yerevan in December 2021 as part of the “National Progress” party. His power does not include representatives of the authorities who do not prioritize the state’s well-being. He is focused on the team’s goals and values. He stated, “We cannot embark on a journey with these people.”

Furthermore, Marutyan emphasized that he will not cooperate with or allow the resurrection of the former government’s powers. He believes they have created a system that has destroyed our state, and they cannot be changed.

It is worth mentioning that Hayk Marutyan was elected Mayor of Yerevan as part of the “Civil Contract” party after the “velvet revolution,” and in December 2021, he was appointed the head of the team. The team initiated the process of addressing infringements, which led to his removal from office.

The “New Power” movement aims to involve the public, political entities, and local self-government bodies in shaping and expressing civic will and political power. Its goal is to organize public and political life in order to safeguard the political and national interests of the people.

The spiritual motivation behind the “New Power” movement is social reformism.
