Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan Raises Concerns Over Occupied Territories and Negotiations

In this case, we talk about 31 villages that are currently unoccupied and our land being claimed by others. Artsvashen, for instance, has been occupied by another party. During an interview on May 1st with Public Television, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan mentioned that in order for Armenia to relocate the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, they need permission from the authorities. He questioned who authorized the shift of Artsvashen and the other 31 villages.

Regarding Azerbaijan and Turkey’s desire to return Armenia from Artsakh, Pashinyan stated that managing that desire is crucial. He pondered whether negotiations are necessary and whether the desire can be changed. He questioned if it is acceptable for soldiers to be sent while others stay in comfortable locations. He emphasized the need to manage the desire to be returned.

Pashinyan acknowledged that Armenia fought for over 20 years for the legitimacy of Artsakh in the international community, which has now been resolved. However, he highlighted the importance of resolving the issue of legitimacy in foreign relations. He stressed the significance of legitimacy itself and stated that diplomacy backed by legitimacy is powerful.

Furthermore, Pashinyan discussed how choosing international legitimacy over military force can be more attractive, despite some considering it as less appealing. He argued that being threatened indicates attractiveness, and choosing the attractive international system is crucial. He emphasized the need to make a choice, as not choosing would lead to being perceived as unattractive.

Pashinyan mentioned the existing fork of thought, where the choice between being a fork or not has been presented. He noted the conflict in interpreting this debate, whether one should or should not be a fork. The Prime Minister admitted that the choice that Armenia will make is unclear. He announced that the goal is to move away from this dilemma, where the choice is not simply between being a fork or not.
