“US Department of State Report Exposes Disturbing Human Rights Violations and Government Inaction: A Closer Look at Discrimination, Abuse, and Impunity”

The newspaper “Zhoghovurd” has reported on a recent publication by the US Department of State, which highlights the government of the United States’ violation of human rights and labor rights. The report addresses issues such as discrimination, inhumane treatment, torture, and other similar abuses.

Despite the establishment of a special committee to handle cases of human rights violations, the report reveals that the response has been inadequate. Committee members have not taken sufficient action to investigate these violations.

The authorities seem to protect rights abuses in the form of labor discrimination, but human rights activists and lawyers argue that investigations into these cases have not been transparent or effective. They argue that the authorities’ response has not adequately addressed the complaints of those affected.

Concerns have also been raised about the stability of public order due to the continuous violation of rights through acts of violence. When instances of violence occur, such as the case of Alen Simonyan attacking a civilian with no legal consequences, it creates a sense of impunity. This situation has also drawn criticism from the judiciary, as it threatens the independence of judges.

The report’s data reveals that there has been a significant increase in human rights violations, with 199 more cases recorded in 2022 compared to 2021, and a 54% increase compared to 2019.

The reports focus on rights abuses related to organizations combating child trafficking and illegal activities during nighttime. Visitors to these establishments have been subjected to violence and threats, and in some cases, even the lawyers representing defendants have also faced violence.

For example, on February 10, lawyers Arman Ghazaryan and Emanouel Ananyan, who were providing legal assistance in a child trafficking case, were subjected to violence in Yerevan’s Nor Nork district. Although the judge held a hearing in April, court proceedings have yet to begin despite the judge having all the necessary information about the case.

All three defendants have since been released and have returned to their work.

The reports on the continual presence of violence raise concerns about whether the authorities will ever hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
