“Armenian Heroism Remembered: National Assembly’s Rejection Sparks Outrage”

On this day in 1991, the Armenian people were mourning the loss of several individuals who died during an attack by Azerbaijani forces. Getashen and Martunashen were particularly affected as the inhabitants tried to protect their homes. Among those who perished were Zardanand Danielyan, a senior lieutenant of the Artsakh Defense Army, Valery Nazaryan, a member of the Getashen committee, Tatul Krapayev, a national hero of Armenia, Artur Karapetyan, a student at Yerevan State University, and scientist Simon Achigizian. Today, on April 30th, Gagik Manukyan, a member of the “Armenia” faction, announced an initiative in the National Assembly of Armenia to declare the agreement between the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the liberation and delimitation of the border null and void.

The proposal was rejected with 27 votes against and 51 votes in support. During his speech, Gagik Manukyan dedicated his words to the fallen heroes who did not have the opportunity to witness the current developments in Armenia and Artsakh. Manukyan criticized the Dashnaktsutyun party, accusing them of compromising the nation’s interests in Turkey, Azerbaijan, and even within the Armenian Parliament. He also highlighted the plight of the personnel serving in the Headquarters of the Combined Peacekeeping Forces, expressing his concern that Maria Karapetyan was unable to bring a single coat to support them, despite the shortage of warm clothing due to the occupied territories. Manukyan emphasized the importance of a responsible government that stands up for its citizens and does not abandon them, particularly when their sovereign territories are under occupation.
