US Ambassador to Armenia Visits Innovative “Psychological Art Therapy” Workshop to Support Resettled Individuals

Last week, US Ambassador to Armenia, Christian Cushing Klein, visited a three-day workshop called “Psychological Art Therapy.” The workshop was held at the Public Pediatric Rehabilitation Center (PPRC) and was managed by David Mitchell, a certified art therapist from the United States.

David Mitchell specializes in working with creative approaches and therapeutic interventions in mental health counseling. From April 22 to 29, he conducted workshops for Armenian art therapists in collaboration with the PPRC, the “Children of Armenia Fund” foundation, and the “World Vision Armenia” organization.

During his visit, Mitchell also had discussions with representatives of social and psychological service organizations that provide important services to resettled individuals. He also conducted workshops and training sessions for mental health professionals, social workers, pediatricians, and school psychologists to help them better understand the needs of resettled individuals. Mitchell, who previously served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Armenia and has personal connections with the country, is familiar with the local context and has established relationships.

“The resettlement process can cause significant psychological and social stress for individuals, families, and children. David Mitchell will share the American experience, which we hope will help Armenian art therapists better address the needs of resettled individuals and improve their well-being while supporting their inclusion in communities,” said Ambassador Klein.
