“Azerbaijan Plans to Settle 300 Citizens in Armenia: Former Ombudsman Raises Concerns”

In an official statement, Azerbaijan has announced plans to settle approximately 300 Azerbaijani citizens in Armenia as part of an international peacekeeping mission aimed at ensuring the security of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, referred to as the “Western Azerbaijan” community. Arman Tatoyan, the former ombudsman of the Republic of Armenia, made this statement during a discussion on April 29. Tatoyan emphasized that the statement is clearly referring to Turkey and that the political situation in Azerbaijan has a direct impact on the security system of Armenia. He believes that the current situation necessitates a new security doctrine based on principles such as the protection of the Armenian nation’s state and individual security, defense rights, real economic values, effective public administration, and civil society movements, among others.

Tatoyan expressed concern about the systematic errors present today that could have catastrophic consequences. He pointed out the violations of rights in the provinces of Syunik, Gegharkunik, and Vayots Dzor, and emphasized that the coordinating body does not have the right to intervene as it could have implications for the entire country. He questioned the connection between the coordinating body and the country as a whole, and raised concerns about the lack of regulation and agreement in the project, as well as the spreading of information about violations of population security based on the name of the coordinating body.
