“Armenia’s Judiciary Proposes Changes in Act Classification Following ‘March 1’ Events: What Does it Mean for the Constitutional Court?”

The main judiciary in Armenia has proposed changes to the classification of acts in response to the events that occurred on “March 1”. During the National Assembly’s discussion of the main judiciary’s 2023 annual report, Deputy Minister of Justice Anna Vardapetyan addressed the Committee of Inquiry on the activities of the Constitutional Court. She explained that the Constitutional Court had declared a certain act unconstitutional and, as a result, it is not permissible to duplicate this act with another article. While those who hold a neutral position have accepted the duplication, the process of duplicating the court decision is currently lacking. The decision of the EC, along with the announcement from the Constitutional Court, is now awaited to determine whether it is feasible to duplicate the composition of the case in light of the Constitutional Court’s involvement in ordinary jurisdiction activities. This is the latest news from Armenia.
