Armenian Prime Minister Seeks International Support in France24 Interview Amid Escalating Crisis and Concerns for Health of Armenian Prisoners of War

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently gave an interview to France 24 television channel, where he discussed the current situation in the country. Pashinyan addressed the various positions of officials from around the world regarding the escalating tensions in Armenia, as well as the requests of the Armenian diaspora to free the Armenian prisoners of war. He mentioned that the situation remains difficult and that they have limited information about his health and the progress of the trial. The trial, initially scheduled for January, has been postponed until May. Additionally, Pashinyan’s father, who had been out of contact with the family for over two weeks, started a hunger strike on April 5. The family has expressed concerns about the release of Armenian prisoners of war and the deteriorating health of Pashinyan.

In response to the international community’s concern, Pashinyan was able to have a telephone conversation with France 24. During the conversation, he expressed gratitude to the French authorities and the public for their support. When asked about the hunger strike and the upcoming trial, David Vardanyan, a spokesperson, stated that they have limited information about Pashinyan’s health and the trial proceedings. Concerns have been raised regarding their safety and Pashinyan’s well-being. Vardanyan explained that Pashinyan made the decision to go to Karabakh without much protection because he believed it was his duty to stand with the people and try to improve their dire situation. Even now, through his hunger strike, he continues to fight for those who should not be forgotten.

In regards to what Europe can do, Vardanyan emphasized that the situation is constantly changing and unpredictable. He stressed the importance of Europe, particularly countries like France with leaders like Emmanuel Macron, demonstrating that political rhetoric can never replace human rights. Vardanyan also expressed hope that other countries would join in supporting the cause and highlighted the significance of European unity in addressing the situation.
