“The Extradition Game: Former Chess Champion, Presidential Candidate, Activists Branded as Extremists and Terrorists by Russian Court”

The city court of Siktivkar has extradited four individuals – former chess champion Garry Kasparov, former presidential candidate Vladimir Gusinsky, human rights activist Yevgeniya Chirikova, and political activist Ivan Utrenin. These individuals have been recognized as foreign agents and included in Russia’s list of extremists and terrorists. The municipal court has stated that the purpose of their extradition is to suppress their activities. The deadline for extraditing activists accused of being extremists is calculated from the moment they are extradited, or if they’re sent to a foreign country, from the moment they are transferred to the Russian Ministry of Defense. According to the municipal court, the aim of their mission is to commit criminal offenses, provide financial support to their leadership, and unfairly publicize them, as stated in articles 205.4, 205.2, and 205.1. The materials from the municipal court reveal that a criminal case has been launched against Komi, the deputy head of the Russian Federation’s security service’s internal affairs department, based on the evidence provided by the Internal Security Department. The court proceedings are still ongoing.
