“President Sargsyan Challenges Efforts to Suppress Genocide in Armenia, Calls for Action from Authorities”

The suppression or elimination of genocide in Armenia has been challenged by Article 379/1 of the Criminal Code since 2006. Recently, journalists asked President Serzh Sargsyan about his visit to the funeral of Nikol Pashinyan’s wife at the museum complex of Tsitsernakaberd on April 24. In response, Sargsyan stated that messages should be sent to the authorities regarding this matter. When questioned about when the opportunity to remove these authorities would arise, he replied, “When you are ready.” Sargsyan also acknowledged that external interventions and other factors have hindered the successful removal of these authorities. Decrying the suggestion to remove the names and surnames of genocide victims, the former President emphasized that such an action would be an insult.
