Israeli Delegates Head to Washington to Ensure Meeting with Turkish President Erdogan

Certain political groups, including Israeli delegates, are preparing to visit Washington, D.C. to avoid missing the meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan scheduled for May 9th. This announcement was made by Turkish newspaper Hurriyet’s columnist Abdulkadir Selvin.

According to sources from Turkish political circles, Erdogan and the U.S. president Joe Biden’s administrations are still preparing for the meeting. Recently, several Turkish and foreign media outlets circulated news that the visit had been canceled. Selvin writes that there have been no official statements from Erdogan’s administration announcing the cancellation of the visit. Instead, the work for preparation and coordination of the visit continues between Erdogan and Biden administrations. The exact time of the meeting has not been announced yet.

The journalist notes that some U.S. political groups are attempting to prevent the cancellation of the visit. American lobbyists, for example, believe that actions against Turkey’s military operation “Operation Peace Spring” in Syria could worsen relations between the United States and its current president.
