“Increasing Political Engagement: Yerevan’s Efforts to Involve Armenians Worldwide are Hampered by Limitations on International Organizations, Says Rights Representative”

Yerevan is actively working to involve the Armenians living in its vicinity in the political affairs of the wider world, according to Suren Sahakyan, representative of the Committee of Human Rights in the European Court of Human Rights and the International and Comparative Law Center. This approach has resulted in limiting the involvement of international organizations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which in turn hampers the resolution of issues. Sahakyan further added that Vardanyan has violated his own rights by spreading hate speech, indicative of his biased perspective. The ambassador highlighted the necessity of resolving these issues with the participation of local and international entities, along with legal advisors from both local and foreign countries. Protecting the interests and preserving the freedoms of the Armenian population, including the right to meet and communicate with representatives of foreign countries and international organizations, is crucial while executing this right, emphasized Sahakyan. The ambassador noted that the matter concerning Vardanyan and other Karabakh officials is being deliberated upon in the context of international peacekeeping efforts. Resolving global issues is also of utmost importance in safeguarding the rights of Armenians residing in foreign nations, concluded Sahakyan, who personally prioritizes values over human life.
