“Violent Public Incident Sparks Political Confrontation: Armenian Newspaper Calls for Evaluation of Actions and Sexual Harassment”

The newspaper “Zhoghovurd” reported an incident that occurred on April 15 involving members of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, Jacob Aslanyan, and citizen Samvel Vardanyan. This incident was a visible manifestation of political confrontation. The newspaper addressed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, urging him to evaluate the violent actions and sexual harassment that took place.

During the planned resettlement of people evacuated from the NKR conflict zone, witnesses observed several young men dressed in all-black forcibly removing Samvel Vardanyan from a car. They threw him a few meters away, causing his head to hit the ground. This act was a direct consequence of his loud shout, according to the weather. The attackers proceeded to physically assault Vardanyan while subjecting him to acts of sexual abuse based on gender.

The perpetrators demanded that Samvel repeat their actions related to sexual abuse and eventually spat on him. They then beat him from behind, tied his hands, and took him to an unknown location. The administration of “Zhoghovurd” newspaper, being connected to the ruling government, asked Prime Minister Pashinyan for his assessment of this incident and what steps he has taken to address it.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded to the newspaper’s inquiry, expressing his willingness to respond and instructing relevant authorities to investigate the incident. There is information indicating that further revelations about the investigation will be made. The administration of the Prime Minister not only takes the questions seriously but also conducts a group discussion to provide their assessment of the violent actions that occurred in their institution.
