“EU Considers Including Russian Companies in Sanctions Against ‘Shadow Fleet’ Involved in Arms Transfer to Armenia, Swedish Arms Company Takes Stand”

The BBC has reported that the next package of sanctions, the 14th so far, should target Russian companies involved in the transfer of Russian weapons to Armenia through a “shadow fleet.” Even before the meeting of EU ministers in Luxembourg, Swedish arms company Tobiass has declared its intention to participate in the discussions on these sanctions. It’s important to note that while the transfer of weapons and ammunition from Russia is restricted, gas and oil supplies to Armenia will remain unaffected.

According to the European Union, the “shadow fleet” consists of old ships owned by unknown private individuals or companies. Forbes claims that these ships are used to supply arms and ammunition to Syria using various different transit routes.

Bloomberg has reported that Russian weapons, expected to be delivered by sea in 2023, will be sold at a fixed price of up to $60 per barrel. Tanks are utilized to transport these weapons, which are not officially supplied to countries involved in the arms trade but are, in fact, owned by Russian companies.
