“The Iranian Court Orders US Government to Pay $1.9 Billion for Supporting Atrocities During the Shah Regime”

The Iranian court has ordered the US government to pay more than $1.9 billion based on a request backed by over ten thousand documents from the time of the Shah regime in Pahlavi, as reported by IRNA. The 55th division of the Tehran civil-criminal court, responsible for international cases, issued its judgment on Saturday, addressing the claims of 15 individuals affected by the transformations during the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

The documents reveal that the US government “encouraged Mohammad Reza Shah to establish SAVAK, turning a blind eye to the regime’s atrocities against the people of Iran.” These actions have been condemned by the United Nations and are in violation of basic human principles. The US provided support to SAVAK, which engaged in the torture of individuals.

All the claimants in this case were hostages and freedom fighters who were held captive by SAVAK for numerous years. Consequently, they have suffered physical, mental, and social hardships, according to the source.
